In 2021, the theme of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is "Accelerating Digital Transformation in Difficult Times".


Telecommunications refers to the means of communication that transmit information by telegraph, telephone, facsimile, radio equipment and the Internet.
The telegraph was officially used for public communication in 1844.
In order to make the telegraph play a greater role, some European countries successively set up "German Austrian Telegraph Union" and "Western European Telegraph Union".

In 1947 the League became a specialized agency of the United Nations, with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The ITU has 191 members. China joined in 1920.
